The Rhode Island Worker Protection and Job Loss Prevention Act, (S2233 & H7462) was introduced before the state Senate on February 9, 2010 and reintroduced before the state House of Representatives on February 11. The Senate bill is sponsored by Senators Frank DeVall, John Tassoni, Elizabeth Crowley, and Frank Ciccone and has been referred to the Senate Labor Committee. The House version is sponsored by Representatives Roberto DaSilva, Helio Melo, John Savage, John Carnevale, and Arthur Corvese and has been referred to the House Labor Committee.
The bills' requirements are substantially similar to legislation introduced before the House during the last legislative session and in the wake of the Colibri jewelry factory closing in East Providence last year. For more information see our entry of April 26, 2009 and Rep. DaSilva's press release on the issue.
Ocean Staters are asked to contact their state senators and representatives to register their support of the pending legislation.
