Rep. Adam Miller of Ohio's 17th District introduced legislation that has implications for workers who lost employment as the result of mass layoffs and large-scale workplace closures. The proposed legislation (HB 21) would require that employers who layoff seventy-five or more individuals provide thirty days advance notice to the director of the state's unemployment insurance agency. The legislation is intended to assist the agency in determining eligibility and process unemployment insurance claims when large layoffs occur. The bill is presently pending in the Ohio's House of Representatives before the Commerce and Labor Committee.
