Local WARN Act News: Cleveland City Council Considers Ordinance

Zack Reed has introduced a draft ordinance before the Cleveland City Council that would require certain local businesses to provide 60 day advance notice of a store closure. Council member Reed's ordinance targets shops occupying 3,000 or more square feet of floor space. The ordinance would principally effect retailers, chain drug stores, and restaurants.

The City of Cleveland presently has a local law requiring businesses occupying 150,000 square feet or more to notify the city fire chief 60 days before abandoning a building.

HB 0078, HB 0785, SB 0474 and SB0975. Simple technical change to language of state WARN statute.
Illinois House of Representatives: Anti-Wage Theft State Contracts
HB 1653. Passed House of Representatives. Now pending in the State Senate where it has been referred to the Committee on Assignments. Bill would bar state contracts to companies found to have violated the Illinois Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.

Maryland: House of Representatives
